Gibtone

For all those lesser mortals who are still scratching their head and wondering what gibtone is all about, let me ease your burden, its just that one hot Wednesday afternoon I was sitting in my room after having failed to turn up for college on the 'nth' day, thinking about the course in which I had just managed to secured a seat for the next year - a consequence of low attendance - and then I suddenly hit upon this brilliant plan to start blogging. But as you people must be aware that to start a blog one needs to come up with a title. And then - as I do so often when faced with such a situation - I start looking at things in my room, any arbitrary thing after which I can name this blog. Right then I lay my eyes on this red colored six stringer of mine - no I still haven't quite figured out how to handle it, nevertheless the sight if not the sound of it still pleases my senses :) - and I immediately decide to name my first blog 'Gibtone'. Well looks like I've deviated from the main topic again.Ah! crap how many times has this thing happened before..I start off talking about one thing and let alone beating around the bush, I fail even to sight the bush. The intention was to share a few thoughtsabout this educational institute that is 'strategically' placed inside a forest reserve, right in the middle of a city and which provides safe haven to a small community of critically endangered Black bucks. How wonderful! We share our campus with Black bucks, spotted deers, vibrant and myriad avian species and not to mention the snakes and our ancestors - the monkeys. The campus has everything needed for an escapade - green trees, tranquility, a beach not far from here and a soothing climate - i.e., if u can tolerate temperatures of up to 34 degree Celsius. But what's the point of having all this in a technological institute? This place would've been ideal had it been a theological society or one of those places where Buddha got his enlightenment. Welcome to IIT Madras!!

Our college bans the use of motor vehicles by students alone. The reason? well people have varied opinions about it. Some say it has something to do with students being reckless drivers, while others say that its because of pollution problems. In any case faculty members are such safe drivers and their cars run on state of the art hybrid technology with zero emissions. Imagine walking a kilometer daily upto three times a day in the heat and the humidity just to listen to a disinterested old man blabber about a topic which has nothing to do with his field of research and on which he has absolutely no fundaes and to top it all its all been taught to you before or is being covered by another professor in some other slot. People say that technology has simplified our lives-ours as well as the professors lives. Imagine teaching err.. reading from a power point presentation-which, obviously has not been prepared by you-to a class of 120 bored and sleepy eyed students. Most of students actually listen to their ipods(Oh yes! we have hazar sood junta here*) or read novels or play mobile games not to mention the sacred art of sleeping. Ah! what a pleasant experience. I would love to do it, Provided, you give me a closed chamber with a home theater and shit loads of pot to keep smoking whenever I donot have to strain myself by teaching a bunch of totally uninterested candidates a subject of which probably I too wouldn't have heard a semester before-Oh yes my train of thought is going off track again...let it roll baby roll... let it roll...all night long!! There is, however, this ancient technique of bunking, which for ages had helped us keep this kind of a situation at bay. 'When the going gets tough, the tough get going'- this is what comes to my mind whenever I think of the latest edict passed on by the senate. The so called attendance rule states that," Any student that fails to secure less than an average of 80% attendance in all the subjects combined, shall be rusticated from the hostel and will not be allowed to sit for placements". Wow! wonderful! The final nail in the coffin. This is all that a student could've asked for. The conditions are right for IITM to reach the level of IITK which has a record of atleast one suicide every semester. It has started as far as I know. Well the fact still remains that I dont know much, because I hardly venture out of my room. I mean its useless going out, when all you see is people rushing after classes and licking the arse of each and every faculty member they find. It depresses me. Not because I cant do it, but because I still cant seem to come to terms with the facts of life. Is this how life is meant to be? keep licking the arse of your higher ups? Well if that is the case go fuck your self. I would rather become a hermit than do a thing so degrading. I am what I am. Why should I attend classes when I can secure the same marks -legally that is - without going to the classes. I wasn't this way all along. There was a time when I used to be a very regular student - regular, not an ass licker - but it made no difference to my academic record. I was a 6 pointer then, I am one now.

Anyways time to leave now. Spiedy macha of our wing is putting a treat. And we shall be going out to this place called 'Snowspark'. I'll probably have a cough syrup on the way. You know, it helps cope up with the kind of mess I am in right now.Coming up...the scientific meaning of life!!
keep Rockin' and rolling!
cheers!
